Holiday Itinerary

We head north with an overnight stay at the Arrochar Hotel on the shore of Loch Long.

We continue via the banks of Loch Lomond and Loch Awe to the coastal resort of Oban. From here we take the early afternoon ferry to the Isle of Barra, arriving at the Isle of Barra Beach Hotel for our two night stay.

The Isle of Barra is considered by many to be the most beautiful little island in Britain, with its tranquil beaches, distinctive culture, and where Gaelic is widely spoken. Today is at leisure to relax and enjoy the island.

Today’s island hopping will see us visit seven islands in one day! We start with an early morning crossing from Barra to Eriskay, famous for the Eriskay Ponies and for being the real “Whiskey Galore” island. We take the causeway across to South Uist, where the west coast is a continuous sandy beach and the east coast dominated by mountainous peaks.  Another causeway connects with Benbecula where we include soup and sandwiches, followed by tea/coffee. The Benbecula causeway links to North Uist which is relatively flat with more than half the island covered in water, making it a birdwatchers’ paradise.  We board the early afternoon ferry for the one hour crossing to Harris, and travel up the west coast where you’ll find some of the most breathtakingly beautiful scenery in the Western Isles. The final leg of today’s journey is to Lewis and the 4-star Cabarfeidh Hotel for our two night stay.

Lewis is the largest island of the Hebrides with a history that goes back thousands of years. We include a full day guided tour of the island today, including Callanish, where we find the awesome collection of stone circles and rows of standing stones called the “Hebrides’ Stonehenge”.

Enjoy the morning free in Stornoway, before a late afternoon ferry crossing to Ullapool on the mainland, which takes just under three hours. We continue through wonderful mountain scenery to the Spey Valley arriving at the Hilton Hotel Coylumbridge for dinner and overnight accommodation.

We commence our homeward journey, with suitable comfort stops en route.
