Holiday Itinerary

An early start as we travel to Holyhead for an afternoon ferry to Dublin, continuing to Trim Castle Hotel for dinner, bed and breakfast

Time to explore the lovely heritage town of Trim, with its impressive Norman Castle which was used in the Hollywood blockbuster Braveheart, before leaving late morning to make our way to Belfast. We take the scenic route via Newey and Carlington, continuing to Downpatrick for some free time. Perhaps visit the cathedral, said to be the burial place of Saint Patrick. From here we travel to our hotel in Belfast in time for dinner

This morning we meet our guide for a half day guided tour of Belfast. The rest of the day is at leisure in this fascinating city.  You may wish to visit the Botanic Gardens and the Ulster Museum, or perhaps seek out the National Trust owned Crown Bar Liquor Saloon with its period gas lighting and cosy snugs

Today we visit the geological wonder that is the Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland’s only World Heritage Site. In this Area of Outstanding Beauty you will have time to explore the state-of-the-art Visitor Centre, and stroll down to the intriguing and distinctive stones.  The Antrim Coast is rated as one of the greatest drives on earth, and on our return journey we follow part of the coast road through the Glens of Antrim, winding between picturesque villages and unforgettable scenery. (There is a small charge for those requiring the use of the shuttle bus from the visitors centre to the Causeway)

Today we visit Hillsborough Castle, one of the most beautiful and interesting historic properties in Northern Ireland and the official residence of the Royal Family when they are in Northern Ireland. We include a guided tour of the magnificent mansion and the opportunity to explore the beautiful gardens.  Tea and scones will be included.  The afternoon is at leisure

We transfer to Belfast for the morning sailing to Cairnryan, and continue our homeward journey. We arrive home late evening
