We travel to the west of Scotland past Loch Lomond into true Highland country and Fort William for dinner bed and breakfast accommodation. Perhaps glimpse Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain which overlooks the town.
A full day tour by rail and ferry over the sea to Skye. First we board the Jacobite Steam Train from Fort William to Mallaig, regarded as one of the Great Railway Journeys of the World. We pass Britain’s highest mountain, deepest loch, shortest river, beautiful villages and silvery sands. Disembarking in Mallaig we have time at leisure, before taking the short ferry over to Armadale on the Isle of Skye. We return over the bridge to the mainland and on to the spa town of Strathpeffer for the next three nights.
Today we visit Scotland’s capital of the north – Inverness, a fine city on the banks of the River Ness. We have time to explore the town and enjoy a scenic drive along the banks of Loch Ness, before returning to our hotel.
A morning excursion to the beautiful Black Isle, returning to Strathpeffer for an afternoon free to relax or explore on foot.
We head south east today, first to the busy resort of Aviemore at the heart of the Cairngorm National Park to enjoy the dramatic panorama of the Cairngorm Mountains. After a coffee stop we board the Strathspey Steam Railway and pass through exquisitely picturesque scenery as far as Broomhill near Boat of Garten, famous for its nesting ospreys. At the end of our journey it’s only a short drive to Grantown on Spey where we take a lunch time break, before continuing to the bustling and attractive town of Pitlochry for our last night’s dinner bed and breakfast accommodation.
We travel across the border and continue homeward with suitable stops en route.
