Our excursion today takes us to Keswick and the Northern Lakes – we travel alongside Ullswater to Ambleside, continuing alongside Thirlmere and Bassenthwaite Lake to Keswick, capital of the Northern Lakes.
The Mountain Goat minibuses take us on our High Adventure, reaching parts of the Lake District inaccessible by coach. We take in the Wrynose and Hardknott passes, the steepest in England, before descending to lovely Eskdale, where we take a break for lunch (at own expense). From here we board the train from Dale Garth to Irton Road, and continue to Wastwater viewpoint, and then the splendid 14th century castle of Muncaster, where we have time to visit the magnificent gardens, and the Hawk and Owl centre (admission to the castle is not included). The beautiful scenery of the Coniston Fells and Coniston Water brings to an end this classic of all Lake District tours.
After breakfast we journey to Bowness-on-Windermere – Cumbria’s most popular destination on the banks of Lake Windermere, with time for an optional lake cruise.
We make our way to Harrogate for time at leisure, before commencing our return journey.
