Treasures of Tuscany

Treasures of Tuscany

Set in the fertile region between the northern Apennines and the Mediterranean, Tuscany is at the very cradle of Italian language and culture. The evocative landscape is one of rolling hills, cypress pines, vine covered slopes and quaint hilltop villages. The volcanic spa of Montecatini Terme is our base for this tour, and from here we discover the delightful tastes, culture and beauty of the region.

Holiday Itinerary

An early morning departure for our channel crossing to France. We continue to the Dijon area for dinner and overnight accommodation.

We continue to Monecatini Terme, our base for next five nights.

In the morning we visit a typical local farmhouse, for our introduction to the tasty world of Italian cuisine. You will learn how to cook a typical pasta sauce, gain some experience in the art of making pasta, and in preparing a typical Tuscan “crostini”.  We include a typical Tuscan lunch consisting of crostini, pasta, wine and mineral water, before an afternoon guided tour of the charming town of Lucca, with its Cathedral, Church of San Michele and well preserved city walls.

We visit Siena, where our tour guide will take you on a two hour walking tour of this important city of art. The highlight is the Piazza del Campo, the seashell-shaped square on which the Palio horserace takes place each year. In the afternoon we continue in the Chianti Valley where this landscape, interspersed with olive groves, cypresses, vineyards and palaces, will not fail to impress. We include a wine tasting with snacks in a winery of the Chianti Valley.

With the benefit of a full day guide, our adventure today takes us on a return train journey to Florence, the capital of Tuscany, and one of the great cultural cities of Europe. (The train station is about a 10 minute walk from our hotel) The art and cultural metropolis of Florence is a must for all travellers to Tuscany, and you will visit the interesting sights of the city on foot with a local guide. There will be time for individual pursuits, before the return journey by rail.

Our guide joins us for a half day excursion to the beautiful village of Lari, which enjoys an exquisite location in the hills of Pisa, and here we visit Europe’s smallest and most authentic family run pasta factory, which exports pasta worldwide.  Return to Monticatini Terme for an afternoon at leisure.

Departing Italy we return to the Dijon area of France for dinner bed and breakfast accommodation.

To Calais and our channel crossing to England, arriving home late evening.
