On the outskirts of Basingstoke and ideally placed for touring Hampshire. Facilities include: Coffee shop, bar lounge; conservatory restaurant; and free Wi-Fi. There is no lift, however there are plenty of ground floor rooms on request.
We head south, pausing for a break in Oxford, before continuing to our hotel.
This morning we cruise through peaceful and attractive scenery on a traditional style canal boat on the Basingstoke Canal. From here we head to Milestones, a living history museum where you can wander down cobbled streets, chat with characters in period costume and explore the shops and factories to experience everyday life from 1810 to 1950.
Our day begins with a ride on the Mid Hants Railway “Watercress Line” for a 20 mile return journey over the “Hampshire Alps” from Alresford. Later we spend the afternoon in historic Winchester, with its magnificent cathedral.
We make our way toPortsmouth, a naval city with a fine nautical heritage, for a 45 minute harbour cruise prior to visiting the exciting £27 million Mary Rose Museum. Located just metres from Nelsons Flagship the museum provides one of the most significant insights into Tudor life in the world. As you would expect, most of Portsmouth's tourist attractions are related to naval history, and here, amongst others, you'll find HMS Victory, the Royal Naval Museum, and the amazing Spinnaker Tower standing 555ft over Gun Wharf Quay. After our museum visit there will be time to explore at your leisure, before returning to our hotel in time for dinner.
We begin our return journey, with a break in Banbury, before continuing homeward.
