the most stunning city panoramas in Europe, dominated by the Cathedral and Castle.
A full day to Alnwick, a still bustling medieval market town. We visit the Castle, which is brimming with drama and intrigue, and is one of the UK’s most significant heritage destinations, as well as starring in a number of film and TV productions, including Downton Abbey and Harry Potter. The extraordinary and contemporary Alnwick Garden has many unique and inspiring features including the spectacular Grand Cascade, and the Tree House, one of the largest in the world, with walkways in the sky, which is accessible to everyone, including wheelchair users. Given time you might like to seek out Barter Books, one of the largest second hand book shops in England, housed in what was the Victorian Railway Station in Alnwick.
Return journey with free time in Whitby, dominated by the cliff-top ruins of the beautiful 13th century Whitby Abbey. You’ll find the old town is full of quirky shops, sea shanty inns and olde worlde tea rooms, and of course great seafood restaurants. Mid-afternoon we continue homeward via the North Yorkshire Moors.
