One night dinner bed & breakfast
Three miles from the centre of Durham, The Honest Lawyer provides modern, motel-style accommodation in stylishly decorated rooms with private entrances. Facilities include: Free Wi-Fi; bar. Meals are served in the restaurant in the main building.
A leisurely departure as we make our way to Kiplin Hall, a Jacobean hall now furnished as a comfortable Victorian home. Discover an eclectic mix of the families’ possessions, and reflect on our past in the WWII kitchen and bathroom. There are also extensive grounds and gardens to explore. From here we continue to The Honest Lawyer to freshen up and enjoy an early dinner, before the highlight of our weekend. We transfer to Bishop Auckland where, once darkness has fallen, and against the backdrop of Auckland Castle, the 90 minute show takes place. On a landscaped open air space equivalent to five football pitches with a full size lake at its centre, the show immerses you in 2,000 years of history, with a movie-like, fast paced and action packed journey from Roman times to the Second World War. As the story unfolds you’ll be treated to ships, and a steam train, mass choreography, combat, dance and dazzling pyrotechnics. Return to the hotel late evening.
After breakfast we take the short journey to Durham, where you will have free time for individual pursuits. The Cathedral and riverside walks are obvious choices for a lovely day out in Durham, however you might like to consider visiting Crook Hall & Gardens. This hidden gem is just a short walk from the Market Place, and the Hall provides a backdrop to stunning, delightful gardens (admission not included) We commence our journey home mid afternoon.
Note: We suggest warm clothing for this outdoor event. Due to its location there will be some walking involved to access the site and seating is tiered, therefore it may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.
