THURSDAY We visit Durham on our outward journey. There will be time to obtain lunch, perhaps take a stroll beside the river or visit the cathedral, before continuing to our hotel.
FRIDAY We make our way to Alnwick Castle and Garden, home to the Duke of Northumberland's family and one of Britain's most iconic castles. You will see spectacular state rooms and medieval architecture as you discover the castle's rich history brimming with drama and intrigue. The beautiful landscaped garden feature magnificent architecture and unique features, all brought to life with water.
SATURDAY We journey to the bustling historic market town of Morpeth, set in rolling countryside against the banks of the River Wansbeck, and where today is market day. This afternoon we continue to Wallington, where the walled garden and Edwardian conservatory are bursting with colour, and the informal home is full of treasured collections and curiosities.
SUNDAY Our first visit today is to Cragside - the palace of a modern magician Sir William Armstrong. Over 120 years ago the house had hot & cold running water, central heating, telephone, fire alarms, a Turkish bath and a lift, and it was the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity. The gardens are superb, however it should be noted that they are not suitable for those with walking difficulties. In the afternoon we visit Belsay Hall, where the house & gardens have been voted one of the best days out in the region. A unique quarry garden, lovely walks, architecture and magnificent views all in one place!
MONDAY We commence our homeward journey with a suitable stop en route
