TUESDAY It's all about the scenery today as we journey alongside Ullswater to Ambleside, continuing alongside Thirlmere and Bassenthwaite Lake to Keswick, capital of the Northern Lakes. We will take suitable stops along the way to make the most of this wonderful excursion.
WEDNESDAY This morning we explore the market town of Kendal, with its fabulous collection of galleries, museums and art galleries, as well as specialist, independent shops. You may wish to visit Kendal Museum, one of the oldest museums in the UK, and where you'll find a wide range of fascinating exhibitions (a small admission fee of approximately £2 per person applies). This afternoon we visit Sizergh, a medieval house with more than 750 years of history. Inside the impressive wood panelling culminates in the exquisite patterned panels of the Inlaid Chamber. The house is surrounded by rich gardens, including a unique and very special limestone rock garden, where colours change with the seasons, and its timeless atmosphere makes this the perfect place to relax.
THURSDAY Today we visit Holker Hall, a delightful family home with a fine display of antique furniture and art. Time to enjoy the stately grandeur of the house and the magnificent gardens, prior to an included lunch of soup and sandwiches. Next we make our way to Haverthwaite for a journey on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway to Lakeside, and from here we take a cruise on Lake Windermere from Lakeside to Bowness where we re-join our coach.
FRIDAY We make our way to Hebden Bridge, for time at leisure, before commencing our homeward journey.
