A modern hotel in the heart of Mechelen, beside the River Dyle and a short walk from the market square. Facilities include: Bar-brasserie; hammam and fitness area; air conditioned bedrooms with minibar, and safe; and complimentary Wi-Fi.
TUESDAY An early morning departure for our channel crossing from Dover to Calais, continuing to Mechelen in time to settle in before dinner.
WEDNESDAY A morning at leisure in Mechelen. Peter Paul Rubens is considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time, and you can admire his 17th century masterpiece “Adoration of the Magi” at St John's Church (Sint-Janskerk), discover St Rumbold's Tower, the 15th century cathedral at the centre of the city, or simply enjoy a stroll around the market square. In the afternoon we visit Leuven, where the beautiful square and the magical atmosphere of the Begijnhof, a completely restored historical quarter, will prove a highlight. Return to Mechelen, where there are a host of good restaurants to be found near the hotel. Don't forget to sample some of the city's famous beer!
THURSDAY We make our way to the heart of Brussels where the Grand-Place is regarded by its admirers as “the most beautiful central square in the world”. Here we find the Town Hall transformed into an idyllic place for a stroll. The entry hall, corridors, offices, meeting and reception rooms are adorned with dozens of floral arrangements, each of them unique and surprising. These magnificently coloured and scented pictures are created by internationally renowned landscape and floral artists. The rest of our day is free to explore Brussels at your leisure.
FRIDAY We begin our return journey and have time for a break in Ypres, before continuing to Calais for an afternoon crossing to Dover and continuing homeward.
