Five nights dinner bed & breakfast, and a welcome drink on arrival
A modern comfortable hotel, ideally placed for our planned itinerary. Facilities include: Air conditioned bedrooms with safe, complimentary toiletries and minibar; bar; restaurant; complimentary Wi-Fi; and spacious outdoor terrace.
WEDNESDAY An early morning departure for our channel crossing to France. We continue to the Mulhouse area for bed and breakfast accommodation.
THURSDAY We continue to Chianciano Terme, our base for the next five nights.
FRIDAY The character of the lovely town of Montepulciano is reflected in the countless exquisite palaces which line the street. Enjoy the historical flair of the gorgeous Piazza Grande, before we continue to Pienza, where we visit a pecorino cheese producer to sample this wonderful cheese. From here we make our way to Bagno Vignoni. Unlike many towns, where a town square dominates the centre, here you will find a large thermal pool. The picturesque setting of this small spa has attracted many famous artists and film makers.
SATURDAY Our first stop is Perugia which has hardly changed at all since the Middle Ages. The houses rise up like a crown perched on the top of a hill. Perugia has a rich treasure trove of sights, all of which you will discover with a local guide. We continue to Assisi, the birthplace of St Francis, whose art and religious sites have charmed visitors from all over the world. We will visit the Basilica with its excellent frescoes by Giotto, the Town Square and the churches of St Clare and San Ruffino.
SUNDAY We take a ride on a vintage steam train to the festival in Abbadia San Salvatore, where the rich pot pourri of colours and aromas of a Tuscan autumn greet you. The Autumn Festival takes place in the heart of the old town, and you will be able to sample rich autumnal fruits of the area and typical local produce like chestnuts, mushrooms, pork and traditional desserts. A range of exhibitions, folk plays and musical events round off the Festival offering. A true Harvest Festival where the intense flavours of the mountains are much in evidence and where skilled local artisans ply their wares.
MONDAY We will discover Cortona today, a true gem of a place and one of the most important cities of the ancient Etruscans. Enjoy an included lunch of traditional local produce in a restaurant, before moving on to visit Arezzo, where we visit the 12th century church of Santa Maria with its impressive bell tower.
TUESDAY Departing Italy we return to the Mulhouse area of France for bed and breakfast accommodation. Dinner this evening will be included at a nearby restaurant, within walking distance of the hotel.
WEDNESDAY To Calais and our channel crossing to England, arriving home late evening.
Please note: There will be a city tax to be paid directly to the hotels in Mulhouse and Chianciano. Currently this tax is €1 per person per night, however it is subject to change
