SUNDAY We journey north, with suitable stops en route, and arrive during the late afternoon.
MONDAY One of the most scenic road journeys in the UK takes us along the Great Glen to Fort Augustus at the head of Loch Ness. We take the eastern shoreline route to Inverness, with superb views right down to the water’s edge. Free time in Inverness, before returning via the west side of Loch Ness. From the Clansman Marina we board a loch cruise, the only way to truly appreciate the beauty of Scotland’s most mystical and legendary loch. We have time to explore the ruins of the iconic Urquhart Castle, before joining the coach and returning to Fort William.
TUESDAY A morning at leisure in Fort William. This afternoon we explore Neptune’s Staircase, a series of lock gates rising 62 feet from the loch to the Caledonian Canal. Next, the Commando Monument, standing proudly overlooking the Great Glen, and finally take a seat on a Mountain Gondola as it transports you to 650 metres, where you can marvel at the views of Lochaber and Ben Nevis.
WEDNESDAY Perhaps the highlight of your holiday! Board the train for a fantastic diesel rail journey on the West Highland Line to Mallaig, reported to be one of the best rail journeys in Europe. In Mallaig your coach awaits and we board the ferry over the sea to Skye, where we travel through the mountains to the coast capital of Portree, returning to Fort William over the Bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh.
THURSDAY We commence our homeward journey, with suitable stops en route.
