Four nights dinner, bed & breakfast
A contemporary hotel just three miles south of Aberdeen, and an ideal choice as our base to explore this beautiful part of Scotland. Facilities include: Cairngorm Bar & Restaurant; health & leisure club with spa pool, steam room and gym; hairdresser; Starbucks; and complimentary Wi-Fi. Porterage is included.
THURSDAY Outward journey to Scotland, where tea/coffee and shortbread will be served on arrival at our hotel.
FRIDAY This morning we visit Dean’s Shortbread factory, where you can witness this famous shortbread being created. On then to Fyvie Castle, an imposing 800 year old fortress. Take time to admire the impressive portrait collection, discover the racquet courts and bowling alley, as well as the ice house and the grisly death mask of a hanged murderer on display in the library.
SATURDAY Our first destination today is Crathes Castle and Garden. Set against a backdrop of rolling hills, and within its own glorious gardens, Crathes Castle is every inch the classic Scottish tower house. We take time at leisure in the village of Ballater, before boarding the train for a short, yet delightful journey on the Royal Deeside Railway which runs along the banks of the river Dee.
SUNDAY To Aberdeen today for a two hour guided tour of Aberdeen city centre (by coach and on foot), with time to relax in one of the many parks, or visit the Merchants Quarter. On our way back to the hotel we call at the small fishing village of Footdee, or “Fittie” as it is pronounced locally, now classed as a conservation area and a unique and colourful oasis. From here we continue to Torry Point Battery viewpoint where, if we are fortunate, we may be able to spot dolphins.
MONDAY We bid farewell to Scotland and commence our homeward journey, with suitable stops en route.
