SUNDAY We journey to Wiltshire, with a break in the Cotswolds, arriving late afternoon at the hotel.
MONDAY This morning we head to Marlborough, a charming old market town, with the widest High Street in the UK, and lined on both sides with characterful old buildings housing an array of high quality shops, antique emporiums and eateries. Following some time at leisure, we make the short transfer to Avebury, part of the Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site. See the world’s largest prehistoric stone circle partially encompass the pretty village, and explore the 16th century manor house refurbished in the styles of different historical periods, as well as its distinctive formal garden.
TUESDAY This morning we head for Longleat House, home to the Marquess of Bath, and a house widely regarded as one of the best examples of high Elizabethan architecture in Britain. Enjoy a full day exploring the rich history of this stately home and Capability Brown landscaped grounds, and we also take a tour through the world-famous safari park.
WEDNESDAY We depart the hotel, taking a break in Oxford en route. Explore the compact city and its fine architecture, picturesque cobbled streets and hidden corners. From here we continue our homeward journey.
