Four nights dinner bed & breakfast
A striking hotel with beautiful gothic architecture, a Grade II listed sweeping staircase and elegant public areas. It is located on the edge of the city centre, just a short stroll to Plymouth Hoe. Facilities include restaurant, lounge and bar area. The hotel has a lift, and porterage is included.
MONDAY We drive to the West Country, making suitable comfort stops en route.
TUESDAY A day at leisure to explore the historic city of Plymouth, with the delightful Hoe extending to the promenade along Plymouth Sound. Take time to wander the quaint cobbled quayside and lanes of the Barbican, at the heart of the city’s heritage.
WEDNESDAY A morning excursion to Lanhydrock, a country house presented as if time has stood still, with over 50 rooms to discover – from the extensive kitchens, to the elegant Victorian luxury of the family rooms. Outside the garden is full of colour and a delight to explore. On in the afternoon to the picturesque fishing harbour of Looe, with the famous Looe Bridge connecting both sides of the town and all of its cobbled streets lined with independent boutiques and cosy restaurants.
THURSDAY An excursion into Cornwall’s rugged heartland, Bodmin Moor. Here we visit Jamaica Inn, made famous by Daphne du Maurier’s novel, and its Smuggling Museum which houses one of the finest collections of artefacts in the country. The museum brings alive many of the myths and legends associated with Jamaica Inn and Cornwall. We then continue to Tavistock, West Devon and East Cornwall UNESCO World Heritage Site. Straddling the fast-flowing river Tavy, below the western edge of Dartmoor, Tavistock stands in the heart of an area of tremendous natural beauty and is a classic West Country Market Town.
FRIDAY We travel home with suitable stops en route.
