SATURDAY Outward journey to Durham to visit its award winning annual Christmas Festival, where you’ll find a wide range of festive entertainment in and around the World Heritage Site of the Cathedral and the Castle. The huge, heated Craft and Gift Marquee on Palace Green features over 150 stalls, (admission not included, and costs approximately £4 per person). In the Cathedral Cloisters, a local food producers market featuring numerous other traders, and in the Cathedral itself, look out for the “Carols for All” service, usually taking place at 1400 hours. Later, we make the short transfer to our hotel, for dinner and overnight accommodation.
SUNDAY Following breakfast, we make our way to Beamish, the Living Museum of the North. See your favourite parts of the museum beautifully decorated for the festive season. Savour the aroma of delicious home-baked goods cooking on the range, listen to merry music and try your hand at traditional crafts. You cannot fail to experience the magic of a traditional Christmas, with celebrations at the Town, Pit Village, Pockerley Old Hall and the Farm. We depart in the afternoon to commence our homeward journey.
