TUESDAY Today we visit Quarry Bank, one of Britain’s greatest industrial heritage sites, and home to a complete industrial community. You will find the compelling story of mill workers, entrepreneurs and the Industrial Revolution, with hand-spinners working, the clatter of machinery and the hiss of steam engines, and also discover the beauty of the Quarry Bank garden.
WEDNESDAY A morning in Liverpool, with free time for exploring this diverse city. In the afternoon we visit Speke Hall, a cherished Tudor manor house, within an atmospheric oasis of beauty on the banks of the River Mersey.
THURSDAY On our return journey we visit Dunham Massey, near Altrincham. The house is filled with a large collection of beautiful and useful objects amassed by a family that never threw anything away. With more than 400 years’ worth of history, there are many fascinating stories to uncover. Browse the 25 acre garden, one of the finest gardens in the North West, or gently stroll in the park. We depart mid-afternoon for the journey home.
