Statement from Mr. Peter Smith Managing Director of PCCoaches of Lincoln. 'Following discussions between local authority Lincolnshire County Council and Lincoln BIG, whose role it is to put Lincoln on the map as a retail and tourist destination, and improve the experience of the city centre for those who visit, live and work in the city, they have decided to withdraw their financial support of £20,000 for the local bus service Walk & Ride at the end of January 2018. Obviously bus companies have to look at the commercial viability of bus services, but good bus services are vital and it is a matter of community need and we cannot simply isolate some residents. I think that elderly and vulnerable members of the community will be severely affected when the service is cancelled. Much to our disappointment for its regular passengers, PCCoaches of Lincoln will look at different options but without any support the service could have to cease early next year. Trying to remain optimistic about the future of the service Mr. Smith concluded that he would be still interested to hear from any local businesses who wished to discuss sponsorship opportunities. * Full statement available on request
